Acquia has launched a new Drupal integration with the company’s digital asset management (DAM) solution, Acquia DAM (formerly Widen DAM), with the goal of accelerating time to market.

Using open source integration, content authors can now leverage Acquia DAM embed codes and manage versioning through the Media Library in Drupal. The Drupal Media Library has been extended so that users can easily find their digital assets through search, metadata, and categories. Acquia DAM makes it easy to organize and control assets, as well as achieve brand consistency through a centralized cloud-based library.

Dries Buytaert, co-founder and CTO of Acquia, said: “Content is at the heart of every great digital experience. With various types of assets stored in different systems, many content creators struggle to maintain brand consistency while building digital properties and creating campaigns. The new Acquia DAM integration with Drupal makes leveraging brand-approved content easier and faster, so content creators can focus on launching content rather than hunting for digital assets.”

Using the integration, content authors within the Drupal Media Library can directly access Acquia DAM and choose from multiple options for embedding assets, including PDFs, videos, images, and more. Content authors can apply their Drupal image styles to their embedded images from a DAM system. Acquia DAM supports SEO, responsive design and accessibility requirements. In addition, it simplifies version control around specific assets, ensuring that the latest version is used in digital properties driven by embed codes.

This integration takes advantage of Drupal’s flexibility and allows the site creator to retain control where needed. By linking directly to the media entity, the integration can be leveraged via Field Embed to respect the existing content setting.

By using the integration, organizations can stop managing terabytes of file data for Drupal sites. Because embed codes are used and all files are managed and managed in the DAM system, files are not duplicated in the Drupal repository. Within Acquia DAM, administrators control who has access to which assets for use in Drupal. They can also track asset usage across the entire digital experience from a DAM system, allowing them to understand the value of digital media used across all channels and repurpose the best performing assets.

Acquia DAM integration for Drupal Media Library is available for free to any user using Acquia DAM and Drupal. More information on integration and documentation is available.
