FIFA Launches NFT Platform for Soccer Fans – Bitcoin News

Soccer’s international governing body, FIFA, has announced the upcoming launch of an NFT platform for sports fans around the world. FIFA+ Collect will offer digital collectibles that will immortalize the best moments of FIFA World Cup play, the organization has promised.

FIFA is developing an NFT platform in partnership with Blockchain firm Algorand

The International Football Federation (FIFA) is preparing to open its new platform for immutable tokens (NFTs) later this month. Initially, FIFA+ Collect will release a series of initial token collections and reveal details about upcoming exclusive and limited collections, the organization said in a press release issued on Friday.

The digital collectibles will feature unforgettable moments from football matches and will feature iconic art and images from the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup. “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles accessible to every football fan, democratizing the ability to own a piece of the FIFA World Cup,” commented FIFA Chief Operating Officer Romy Gai, elaborating:

Fandom is changing and soccer fans around the world are engaging with the game in new and exciting ways… Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments and more on new platforms.

FIFA+ Collect will be available on FIFA+, the federation’s digital platform that provides access to live football matches from around the world, interactive games, news, tournament information and other original content. FIFA+ Collect will initially launch in three languages — English, French and Spanish — with more to come, on web and mobile.

FIFA’s NFT platform was created as part of the partnership with Algorand announced earlier this year. “The commitment FIFA has made to bridge to Web3 powered by Algorand is a testament to their innovative spirit and desire to communicate directly and seamlessly with soccer fans,” said interim CEO W. Sean Ford. In May, FIFA and a blockchain technology company agreed on the sponsorship and technical partnership agreement ahead FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
