CVS trademark applications Talk about virtual worlds and NFTs

Pharmacy giant CVS has filed a series of trademark applications with the USPTO on February 28, 2022, and registrations were published on March 4. CVS-Health trademark application # 97287237 talks about a number of concepts of virtual items and non-replaceable tokens (NFT). Section 1 (a) of the submission states:

Downloadable virtual goods, namely various consumer goods, prescription drugs, health, wellness, beauty, personal care products and general goods for use online and in online virtual worlds.

Similarly, Section 1 (b) is described in the same way, but with “digital assets and digital collectibles sold as non-replaceable tokens (NFTs).” CVS Health trademarks of virtual goods and digital collectibles follow a number of well-known brands that also reported similar trademark-related trademarks to the USPTO.

Fast food giant McDonald’s filed trademark-related stamps with the USPTO in mid-February and Walmart filed metaverses and trademarks related to NFT in mid-January. New balance, Pumai Crocs have recently reported metaverse trademarks as well. CVS trademark applications indicate that the concepts are intended to enhance “entertainment and leisure” and “use in virtual environments”.

CVS’s NFT idea aims to provide online digital works of art and paintings; crypto-collectibles and application tokens used and transmitted to software as a service; crypto-collectibles and application tokens accessed on the platform as a service; providing temporary use of non-downloadable digital media, ie digital assets, digital collectibles, digital tokens and non-replaceable tokens. “
