Shark Week will now have its own NFTs

This year’s Shark weekwhich kicks off on July 24, is filled with plenty of fantastic content on Discovery and the channel’s streaming platform, Discovery+but along with all the regular shark programming, there’s a new, unexpected part of this year’s event: the NFT.

Some of the exciting new shark-focused content you can catch this year includes The great white battlefield, Mega Predators of Oz, and Extinct or living Alaskan jaws, and now you can also get some exclusive NFT Sharks while enjoying them!

Discovery has announced that they are partnering with Nifty’sthe NFT community platform, for giving Shark week fans have the opportunity to “purchase NFTs, claim free NFTs for viewing SHARK WEEK content, and earn exclusive merchandise and rewards by participating in the program.”

According to the event’s press release, fans will be able to purchase five special NFTs through Nifty’s platform, starting on July 20th and ending on July 31st.

But if you don’t want to buy any NFTs, there will also be seven free NFTs available during Shark Week, as QR codes will appear during various programs. Each of these NFTs will be available for search 24 hours a day.

Discovery’s NFT program offers an added incentive to get people to collect all 12 NFTs, as anyone who has them all at the end of the period will gain access to exclusive Shark Week merchandise and other prizes.

The announcement states that the five purchasable NFTs will have a “trading card look” and are “inspired by five of the most beloved shark species: great white sharkseveryone’s favorite super predator, the infallible hammerhead shark, goblin shark, whale shark, gentle giant and the oceanthe largest fish and colorful shark that has existed since the dinosaurs.”

The free NFTs will have a slightly different design and will feature species like the bull shark, tiger shark, and mako shark. Discovery also announced that it will donate $5,000 to the nonprofit Under the waveswhich focuses on ocean conservation.

So for all of you who are obsessed with the Seven Sharks on Discovery, this NFT program is just for you.
