Vodafone, the official connectivity partner of the Wimbledon Championships, has teamed up with Snapchat to launch a new augmented reality experience that invites Snapchatters to take their place on center court and connect with the tournament like never before.
As part of Vodafone’s #FeelTheConnection summer campaign, which focuses on using connectivity to bring different Wimbledon experiences to fans, the AR activation features British tennis sensation Em Raducan and transports Snapchatters to Center Court via 5G and Vodafone.
The activation supports Vodafone’s multi-year partnership with one of Gen Z’s most iconic icons, teenage tennis sensation Emma. Earlier this year Emma was announced as a brand ambassador as part of Vodafone’s ambition to inspire young people to pick up a racket, get healthy and try tennis as their next sport.
Snapchatters will be served with an AR lens on the Snapchat Camera carousel.
When activated, Snapchatters receive a video call from Emma Raducanu congratulating them on winning Wimbledon 2022, along with the crowd cheering in the background and the Snapchatter’s name on Vodafone posters.
When they turn their camera, Snapchatters will find themselves immersed in Wimbledon’s famous center court.
Snapchatters were then invited to “Strike a Pose” dressed as Wimbledon champions in Vodafone-branded clothing to share photos with their friends. The AR lens will be broadcast on June 24 and throughout the Wimbledon tournament.
Jordan Stone, head of social media and content, Vodafone UK, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Snapchat to highlight how our connectivity can bring tennis fans straight to Wimbledon. This activation provides the ultimate way for Snapchatters to experience this summer’s championship and even ‘win’ the tournament. As an official connectivity partner, we are so excited about this innovation and the potential of AR to bring people closer to the action.”
